Spooky Season 🎃

Life's Changes & Energy In Motion

Helllllo ❤️

October has entered the chat, and spooky season is in full swing. Everywhere you turn, there's a pumpkin-spice enthusiast, crunchy leaves underfoot, and a sudden surge in the root vegetable stock market. Not to mention Halloween; we all know a couple planning their Barbie and Ken moment, and I'm here for it.

As much as I will always be a spring-summer baby gyal, Autumn has a charming quality that reminds me of life's changing phases. It's a gentle nudge towards the cyclical nature of life and the universe, as the saying goes, 'If nothing changes, nothing changes'. Embracing each moment, each season, and finding joy amidst the transitions is the essence of living fully.

This week's Self Care Session Theme... ❤️

Emotion: Energy In Motion - we will explore this transitional time through movement, meditation, and breath work. For all The Membership babes, everything you need to join tonight's session at 7 PM is at the bottom of this email. I've also added 2 exclusive classes to my video library. 👀

Life's Seasons and Emotional Energy:

Just as nature has its cycles, our lives are marked by growth, stagnation, joy, and challenge, with each phase carrying its own emotional undertone. Emotions are energy in motion, flowing through us, sometimes as a gentle stream and others as a flash flood. Recognising and respecting this energy is crucial, especially as we navigate each season's unique challenges.

For some in our neuro-spicy community, the sensory overload of summer can be overwhelming, with the intense heat and relentless brightness. With its milder days and longer nights, Autumn can offer these people a welcome respite. But as the days shorten and the nights grow longer, others might start to experience shifts in mood & maybe the onset of Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). This year i’ve coined it 'sad girl spooky season'.

The Science of SAD:

The natural light-dark cycle influences our circadian rhythm, our body's internal clock called the suprachiasmatic nucleus (my favourite word) via the optic nerve in the eye. As Autumn progresses, the reduced sunlight can lead to a drop in serotonin, a neurotransmitter that regulates mood. Additionally, the change in season can disrupt the balance of melatonin, a hormone that helps regulate sleep patterns. This combination can lead to feelings of depression, lethargy, and a general sense of malaise in some people.

Harnessing Emotional Energy:

Firstly, having the awareness to be present in this energy shift as it happens grants us clarity & perspective. Secondly, when we understand our emotions as a form of energy, we can learn how to channel, transform and even harness them. This is how we navigate life's seasons with those delicious yogic qualities of Sthira and Sukha (steadiness and ease).

Tools for the Transition:

1. Light Therapy: The natural light-dark cycle influences our internal body clock or circadian rhythm. As Autumn progresses, the reduced sunlight can lead to a drop in serotonin, a neurotransmitter that regulates mood. A light box mimics natural daylight and can help regulate the body's internal clock, potentially elevating mood. It's especially beneficial for those with Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). Use the link below to purchase yours today; tick the box saying you have SAD to get a £16.50 discount.

2. Stay Active: Physical activity is more than toning those muscles. Regular exercise can boost serotonin levels, acting as a natural antidepressant. When you exercise, your body also releases endorphins, natural mood lifters. So, even a brisk walk can help keep the autumn blues at bay. If you're keen to start training but fancy some help, click the link below to book a FREE PT consultation with me. ❤️

3. Supplements: The lack of sunlight during Autumn and winter can lead to a Vitamin D deficiency, which has been linked to mood disorders. Taking a Vitamin D supplement can help bridge the gap. I get all of my supplements from an amazing brand called Human People - click the affiliate link below and use code AFF8FGSSUPP at check out to get a lovely 10% off.

Recommended Product: Ultra Vitamin D3 + K2

4. Nature's Embrace: Getting outside can be beneficial even on overcast days. Natural light, even if filtered through clouds, can help regulate melatonin and serotonin levels. Plus, being in nature has its own set of benefits, from reducing stress to improving focus. If you'd like to delve deeper into the healing effects of nature then give this book a read.

5. Mindfulness and Meditation: Grounding practices can help centre you during these shifts, offering clarity and calm. They also provide a space to process and channel our emotional energy. Regular meditation can reduce stress, increase self-awareness, and even improve concentration. Click the link below to access all of Headspace FREE for 30-days; they have guided meditations for every mood & moment.

As we journey through "Sad Girl Spooky Season," let's remember that every season of nature and life offers lessons. It's a dance of light and shadow, growth and rest. Stay warm, and stay informed.

Lots of love xx
